Your first wallet starts with a usable signing routine.
Choose Trezor Safe 3 if Bitcoin-only firmware and its documented backup choices matter to you. Consider Ledger Nano S Plus if you prefer its companion app and your computer or Android phone meets its requirements. Both can receive native Bitcoin and verify details on hardware. Neither supports an iPhone-only signing routine.
There is no universal 0.1 BTC threshold at which one becomes the right purchase. Compare the complete cost with the amount you need to protect, and make sure you can keep and check a private backup before moving funds.

USB-C with supported desktop or Android; no iOS support. Check current OS requirements.
Bitcoin workflow
Bitcoin-only or Standard firmware; receive and manage BTC through Trezor Suite.
Bitcoin account in Ledger Wallet with the appropriate device app. Multicoin support does not require buying other assets.
Backup choice
Setup documents 12- or 20-word options; defaults depend on device generation. The 20-word format can support a later multi-share setup.
Ledger documents a 24-word recovery phrase. Follow the exact model setup instructions and retain the backup privately.
Receive check
Display the full Bitcoin address and verify it on the device.
Select the Bitcoin account and verify the receive address on the signer screen.
Total purchase cost
Compare device, tax, delivery, any required data cable and backup storage at checkout. Current localized prices were not verified; no cheapest-price claim is made.
Our preference for a Bitcoin-only routine is a workflow judgment, not proof that one device cannot fail or is universally safer. A certification label alone does not compare the complete wallet, backup handling and software you use.
02 / Make the purchase decision
Choose the routine before the brand.
Safe 3: focused Bitcoin setup
A useful shortlist choice if you specifically want Bitcoin-only firmware. Read the backup options before creating the wallet; do not assume a backup from one format can be restored on every other brand. Trezor documents US fulfillment, while stock and your exact delivery address remain checkout checks.
A practical alternative if its USB signing and companion-app workflow suit you. Check your operating system and cable ports before ordering. Having many supported assets is useful only if you need them; it does not by itself improve a Bitcoin-only decision.
If you only have an iPhone, cannot privately store a backup, or cannot comfortably verify an address on a small screen, pause this two-model choice. Buying hardware does not resolve those requirements. Trezor delivery information.
03 / Your first withdrawal
Verify the destination before moving the balance.
Complete the official setup. Follow device authentication and backup checks. Keep backup words offline and private; never send them to support or type them into a website.
Create a native Bitcoin receive address. Compare the full address on the hardware with the app. An exchange withdrawal must use the same Bitcoin network; a wrapped token or Lightning invoice is a different route.
Review the source platform. Check its withdrawal minimum, fee and any account hold. A hardware purchase does not remove an exchange withdrawal restriction.
Send a small test above the minimum. Allow for the additional fee of a second withdrawal. Confirm receipt before deciding whether to move the remaining balance.
This comparison began with a full public first-wallet question naming these two models. The author’s country and age are unknown; we selected the US research market. We reviewed documentation and did not buy, set up or test either device. Search demand and a competitive gap are unmeasured.
These are ordinary official links with no active affiliate tracking. Trezor advertises up to 15% of eligible net hardware sales and monthly EUR or BTC settlement after approval. That is a sale commission, not recurring income from holding Bitcoin. Our approval, assigned rate and attribution are unverified; Ledger terms were not verified. Trezor programme details.
