Choose the complete route, not a trust slogan.
Gemini and Kraken both serve US customers, but the screen used to buy, the funding method and the later Bitcoin withdrawal change the result. Compare the BTC that becomes withdrawable from the same USD budget before opening or funding an account.
same USD budget→executed BTC purchase→your Bitcoin wallet
01 / Match the interface to the purchase
“Buy now” and an order book are different quotes.

Gemini
Gemini lists all 50 states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico in its US availability table. Its current ActiveTrader first tier is 0.60% maker and 1.20% taker. Those rates apply to ActiveTrader orders, not automatically to every mobile instant-purchase quote.
Gemini lists ACH deposits as free and debit-card purchases at 3.49%. External crypto withdrawals use a dynamic network-linked fee shown before confirmation. Check your funding eligibility and withdrawal preview; an available account is not the same as immediately withdrawable BTC.
Kraken documents a 1% trading fee on instant and recurring buys plus a variable spread; payment fees can be additional. Its current first spot tier is 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker. Compare an actual Kraken Pro order with the app quote instead of mixing the two schedules.
For US funding, Kraken lists free near-instant ACH via Plaid with a seven-day withdrawal hold. FedWire is listed as free, normally zero to one business day, with no platform withdrawal hold; bank availability and bank-side fees still require checking. A fast purchase can therefore be slower to self-custody.
These are ordinary official links. We did not open accounts, fund them, buy Bitcoin or test withdrawals. Fee schedules can change and the confirmation screen for your verified account controls the actual transaction.
02 / Run one comparable preview
Record four facts before sending money.
Fix one all-in USD budget. Include card or bank fees; do not compare a $100 trade with a $100 account debit if one route adds funding cost.
Use the intended order screen. Record the fee, spread or displayed BTC received. A resting limit order is not a completed purchase; use the executed amount.
Check withdrawal timing. Record settlement or security holds for the chosen funding method. If immediate self-custody matters, a lower trade fee can lose on timing.
Preview native BTC withdrawal. Use a Bitcoin address you control, confirm the Bitcoin network, and subtract the displayed withdrawal fee from purchased BTC. Do not substitute Lightning unless both sides explicitly support that transfer.
Choose only after identity, state and bank eligibility are confirmed. For a small purchase, a fixed or dynamic withdrawal fee can matter more than a difference between trading percentages. If either service cannot show the complete route, leave it unresolved rather than guessing.
Good product fit first. No commission is connected.
Gemini publishes a $25 affiliate payment for an approved publisher when a new user places a trade. That is one-time CPA, not recurring revenue. Kraken publishes negotiable revenue share or CPA on eligible referred activity and requires site approval. Neither program is active here; signup and deposit are not claimed as payable events.
