US reporting · Software selection · Reviewed September 7, 2026

Choose DeFi tax software that fits your history.

A “best overall” label cannot tell you whether your staking, lending and wallet transfers import correctly. Compare two trials against the records you actually need before paying for a report.

We may earn a commission if you buy a qualifying CoinLedger DIY tax report through our affiliate links. Koinly links are not affiliate links. Neither placement is a claim that one service produces more accurate tax results.

Start with the task you need done

You need a reporting platform that can bring together your exchange and self-custody history, let you review DeFi activity and provide the US export you need.

Choose on that evidence. A lower estimated tax bill, a clean-looking dashboard or a supported blockchain name alone does not establish that the underlying records are complete.

This is an independent selection worksheet, not a hands-on accuracy ranking. We reviewed the linked product documentation; we have not run your history through either service.

Two limitations to check first

CoinLedger

Imported does not always mean classified

Its help center says activity from unsupported contracts can remain Uncategorized and be excluded from report calculations. Inspect those records before treating the displayed totals as complete.

Koinly

Check your exact liquidity activity

Its liquidity documentation describes manual adjustments for unsupported protocols and special cases such as zapping. General chain support does not settle how every operation in your history will be represented.

Your history. Your decision.

Compare two actual trials

Open each service separately, import the same complete history, then record what you verified. We do not connect to wallets or inspect your transactions. Your selections stay in this tab and reset on reload.

Keep testing — some checks are still unknown.

These are your observations. Passing four checks does not certify a return, prove full protocol support or establish which total is correct.

If both meet your requirements, compare the verified price and the remaining work. If neither does, ask the services about the unresolved records or get qualified help. There is no automatic winner.

Before you purchase a report

  1. List every source of relevant history, including closed exchange accounts and wallets you no longer use. Use the same scope in each trial.
  2. Resolve differences at the transaction level. A lower total is not evidence that a platform is better. Keep an explanation for outstanding discrepancies.
  3. Confirm the report year, current transaction allowance, required forms and filing-software format. CoinLedger documents free import/review before paid report download; check the current checkout for the actual cost.
  4. Buy only if the service meets your requirements. If you need help deciding the tax treatment of an operation, bring the underlying records to a qualified tax professional.

Form 1099-DA does not replace all your records. The IRS explains how to use it alongside other information and what to do when a form is incorrect. This page helps compare software workflows; it does not calculate tax or approve a filing.
