Compare the executed route, not the headline fee.
For a roughly $300,000 Bitcoin purchase split into three chunks, compare each route with the same USD amount and timestamp. The useful result is native BTC that can reach your own wallet, after execution price, fees, funding conditions and withdrawal cost.
Kraken's current OTC page states a $100,000 minimum, requires Pro-level verification and presents the quote as all-inclusive. It says eligible clients can settle within 24 hours through a Kraken balance, bank or external wallet. Confirm that direct external-wallet settlement is available for your personal account before relying on it.
An OTC quote is a complete price, not a zero-cost trade. Record USD due, BTC delivered, quote expiry and settlement destination. A 2025 Kraken blog announced a $50,000 minimum, while the current product page says $100,000; use the live desk's eligibility and quote.
A Pro limit order exposes fee tier, order type and fills separately from the market price. A limit price controls the worst execution price, but does not guarantee a fill. Splitting a purchase can reduce timing concentration while creating more funding, fill and withdrawal events.
Record every fill, maker or taker fee, unfilled balance and the displayed native-BTC withdrawal fee. Do not compare an unfilled order with an executable OTC or brokerage quote. Account limits and available USD wire rails must be confirmed before funds move.
River markets Private Client to customers investing $100,000 or more. Its current fee page publishes a 1.00% one-time-order fee through $1 million and says the price may include spread. That means a $100,000 order can have a $1,000 listed transaction fee before any difference in quoted BTC price.
River documents ACH and wire funding; its flow explanation says wire-funded cash can avoid the ACH settlement hold before a Bitcoin withdrawal. Confirm current funding limits, quote, network fee and state eligibility in the account.

Make the quotes actually comparable.
Fix the chunk and timestamp. Ask each available route for the same USD debit within a short window. Save screenshots or confirmations with expiry times.
Calculate effective execution. Divide total USD debited by BTC credited. Include explicit trading fees; do not add a spread twice when it is already inside an all-inclusive quote.
Record settlement risk. Note wire instructions, name matching, cut-off time, failed-transfer handling and when BTC becomes withdrawable. Verify instructions in the authenticated account, not from an email alone.
Preview native BTC delivery. Confirm the Bitcoin network, withdrawal fee, minimum and destination. Send a small verified test withdrawal before the larger transfer, then verify the address on the Ledger device screen.
Compare final BTC. Use BTC arriving at the wallet, not promotional fee percentages. Keep the other chunks unfunded until the first route settles as expected.
Large purchases also create custody, fraud, tax and banking questions outside a fee comparison. Do not borrow against expected gains or leave funds at a venue solely to chase a price. If the bank, platform or wallet step is unresolved, pause the transfer and obtain appropriate professional help.

Kraken says approved publishers may receive cash revenue share on eligible referred trading fees, with the actual service and compensation assigned after approval. The source's three planned purchases do not prove three commission events, and OTC spread is not assumed to be covered.
