United Kingdom · cold storage → GBP bank · Source-led comparison
Move the evidence before you move the Bitcoin. Deposit, sell, then withdraw GBP.
For a large cold-storage cash-out, the hard question is not only “which exchange is cheapest?” It is whether the provider can accept the deposit, your records explain the coins, and a same-name GBP withdrawal is available after the sale.
Record the route. Note the wallet addresses, transaction IDs, dates, acquisition records and any prior transfer history before moving funds.
Ask the receiving provider first. A public help page cannot pre-approve a particular ten-year wallet history or a £50,000 deposit. Use the provider’s current support or compliance channel for account-specific questions.
Verify the BTC deposit screen. Generate the address inside the signed-in account and match the asset and network. Consider a small test only if the provider’s rules and your situation make that sensible.
Separate sale from withdrawal. A credited BTC balance does not mean a GBP withdrawal is ready. Check the sell quote, bank name, limits, holds and timing separately.
02 / Provider decision
Both routes require account checks; their published GBP details differ.

Kraken
Kraken’s published withdrawal table lists UK/Gibraltar GBP Faster Payments with a £5 minimum, a £1.95 fee and a near-instant target. Treat those as published route details, not a guarantee that this account will be cleared for a large cold-wallet deposit.
Kraken’s terms also require the bank account name to match the verified account name. Ask how its current compliance process handles your records before transferring the full balance.
Coinbase lists UK Faster Payments cash-out with a 1–3 business-day settlement window and requires the payment-method name to match the Coinbase account. Its UK funding guide says identity and phone verification are required, and the bank account must match.
Coinbase’s UK onboarding also includes tax-residency information and an appropriateness assessment before buying or trading. That is a real onboarding condition, not evidence that a cold-wallet source-of-funds review will be approved.

A bank call may clarify its policy, but it cannot pre-approve an exchange compliance decision. Keep the original wallet untouched until the receiving route and records are clear.
Can a published “near-instant” withdrawal promise immediate access to £50,000?
No. It describes a provider’s stated processing target for an available route. Account verification, transaction review, limits, bank processing and source-of-funds questions can change the actual result.
Is this a recommendation to use Kraken or Coinbase?
No. Use the provider that confirms your route and account conditions. If neither confirms the deposit and GBP withdrawal path, do not send the balance just because a public fee table looks attractive.
Research basis: the full public source asks about cashing out approximately £50,000 of BTC held offline for about ten years, ownership evidence, timing and exchange choice.
